Scraps and Pieces Leftover

So I am moving to Washington, D.C. for at least 6 months for a new job/internship/fellowship/whatever you want to call it. I'm flying out in two days. I think I may still be in some kind of denial because I haven't even started packing at all. I still haven't figured out exactly where I'm going to live. This whole thing is slightly more intimidating than I had originally thought. I'm currently occupied with saying goodbyes, throwing away some stuff I don't need, and busily wrapping up my life in Texas. So in that clean-up spirit, I decided to post all the film photos I didn't get a chance to upload before (mostly taken with the FM10 + Portra). With that said, these photos are at least 2-3 months old, so excuse this later post!

Lately...

Things have been fun. I haven't really been shooting much because I've been going through a weird slump where I got tired of the things I shoot and the way I shoot things, just totally uninspired by anything that I produce. It also has to do with my frustration with the last roll of medium format film I ruined in my stupidity (Oh, Yashica. Why must you be so tricky?) - yup, opened the chamber when the film wasn't completely rolled yet. Rookie mistake. But we live and learn right?

Last Week With the F4

Spinach and arugula salad with tomatoes, avocado, and sliced raw almonds for lunch with my mother. And of course, some persimmon for dessert.



My parents and I spent some time in Old East Dallas before heading down to Austin for the weekend. I was pleasantly surprised to find some local gems around there, although I probably should never go down there by myself.

Lastly, my parents got $1 espresso shots at Jimmy's where we ate lunch. I swear I inherited my addiction to coffee from those two.

Portra 400 on Yashica Mat-G

So I finally got the chance to try out the 120 Portra 400's on my medium format, and I fell in love all over again with film and this camera. I tried to scan the prints as best as I could, but since they're not direct negative scans it was a little hard to keep them high resolution.

The top two images are from one of the brunches at Oddfellow's in Oak Cliff, and bottom two in Austin. Yay, brunches and coffee. Speaking of which, I need some right now after the tiring and intense trip to New York. More photos coming soon!

Dallas Arts District

So guess what? Dallas decided to be all artsy and innovative just in time for my return from the glorious Austin. There sits the Klyde Warren Park right on top of the Woodall Rogers Freeway, which divides downtown Dallas from Uptown. You can sort of picture a long park looking over the entire downtown filled with all sorts of futuristic features and fun things: free croquet rentals, badminton, foosball, ping pong tables, "reading rooms" with newspapers, magazines, books, etc, board game section, live concert stage, etc. You name it.

  

 

 

 

 Plus, they were putting up the Christmas tree! Yay.

Instasunday #3

Sunsets, lots of coffee, Texas Rodeo, downtown Dallas, photo adventures, and more sunsets. Have I mentioned that Texas sunsets are absolutely the best in the world?

And then - what pretty much sums up this past weekend. Brian came up to visit and all of us had a blast sitting through the most horrid traffic (whoever thought of the idea that 4 lanes should merge into ONE during construction on the highway is a genius. Good job, whoever.) and inventing fun games to play in the car to appreciate the traffic. Anywho, we got to explore Dallas and drink a lot of coffee, and at last watch some sexy cowboys do their thang at the Rodeo. Couldn't have asked for a better weekend.

Post-Shopping Craze

Ok first of all, let's talk about the weather in Texas this past weekend. With highs of 60s and lows in 50s, or sometimes a bit colder, the cold front came about in such a stealthy manner that I was pretty skeptical for awhile. I chose to stick with my shorts for the first day, then soon gave into changing my whole closet for the new season (meaning taking out my favorite blazers and scarves!). Yes, autumn comes in the middle of October for us. It's quite wonderful. But not to be a geek or anything (which I am pretty much 98% of the time), but the best part about this weekend was the overcast soft lighting all day long, which's really rare in Texas. 

My mother and I went on a shopping binge the past few days, but only one of the trips was successful. She bought the red shirt, cardigan, and jeans all from the Banana Republic Factory Store - and doesn't she look absolutely fantastic in them?!

Anyways, cheers to autumn. It's my favorite season.
